Introduction of Medieval Art
The medieval art period began in 300 AD and lasted until around 1400 AD. There were many different themes used during this time. General themes used were Early Christian art, the Migration Period art, Byzantine art, Insular art, Pre-Romanesque art, Romanesque art and Gothic art. (In the other pages linked to the site will be descriptions of some of these.) The people used these general ideas and others and turned them into art such as sculptures, illuminate manuscripts, stained glass, metal work and even mosaics. Mosaics are pictures made out of different shape, sizes and color of tiles, stone or glass.
